Royal Diadem

I made a wild discovery a couple of weeks ago, one that deepened the revelation about who I am to the Lord!  And, because God loves us all the same, this is for you, too!

If you take time to mediate on this, declare it, and move forward in abandoning yourself to this truth…  I can only imagine how your life will change.

Here it is:  You are a crown of glory, honor, beauty, majesty, AND bravery in the hand of God, a royal diadem, exceedingly beautiful, in the hand of your Lord! (Is 62:3 AMP, and Hebrew definition expanded)

Isn’t that just crazy!?

I further discovered that a diadem is a silken headdress, woven with strands of fine gold, and embellished with pearls.  Wow!  That’s you! That’s me!!  (It’s ok if you jump up and dance at this point.)

You’ve heard me say it before – Bill Johnson in The Supernatural Ways of Royalty, by Kris Vallotin, says, “We always act out of our SELF-UNDERSTOOD identity.”

Notice, he didn’t say, we always act out of who God says we are — or our true selves — or our kingdom identity…. but rather, who we THINK we are.

In my coaching practice, this is always evident.  That’s why we always begin with self-perception.  Not much else can be done to move forward without understanding and revelation about that!

So, maybe you don’t perceive yourself as a crown of glory and beauty, a royal diadem in the hand of God… but you can start!

Ask God to deepen this awareness of your true identity, and watch what happens in your life.  I’d love to hear about it!!

I had an amazing experience this week!  It stunned and shocked me.     Some of you may not know this but in 1998 I was diagnosed with a  rare, untreatable, and progressive eye disease called retinitis pigmentosa, a disease that doctors said would lead to my ultimate and certain blindness.  In fact, it would happen quickly because of my “advancing” age.  (Uh… thanks guys)

That diagnosis put me on a roller coaster of emotions and stress that eventually resulted in a stronger, more developed faith… hallelujah!  (Ha ha to the enemy!)  

I have been grateful to God because I haven’t gone totally blind, but there hasn’t been any significant positive change either… UNTIL THIS WEEK!!!

While shopping in our famed Wegmans, (yes, the one Alec Baldwin loves), and carrying one of those blue baskets with both my arms … all of a sudden… I SAW THE BASKET!

Now, for those of you with normal eyesight… you might not think  this a big deal… but ANY sight I can regain is a MIRACLE! This is NOT supposed to happen!  What joy!

It then dawned on me that this is just the beginning!  I have had an expectation of full recovery for a few years now…. but now my expectation is at a feverish pitch!  While this is a small addition to my field of vision, it’s plenty enough to cause me to “see” even more.

Besides this good news, I also want to share with you what I believe God is showing me…  in order to SEE the manifestations of God on the outside, we need to SEE them first on the inside. (I’m not limiting God. He can do whatever He wants.  But this is a Kingdom principal that works!)

We need the eyes of our hearts to be enlightened, flooded with light, so we can know and understand the HOPE to which He has called us according to Eph 1:18.

I have been praying daily for years to have my spiritual eyes flooded with light… and now, my natural eyes are defying medical science and I get to see something I couldn’t before.

Please rejoice with me!!  The same is true for you!

During my time with the Lord this morning, I was led to a verse that seemed to illustrate a phenomenon I see all too often.  In fact, it could be one of the primary reasons people come to me for coaching.

Maybe they don’t see it as a main reason, but sooner or later, thankfully it reveals itself.

Here is the insight from 1 Jn 3:21:

“If our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God.”

Many of us are insecure and want more confidence.  We know that confidence in God and confidence in being before Him is ultimately the key.  But many times, the voices in our head, as well as fears expressed through others’ voice, accuse us, and make us feel pushed down.  We end up not feeling confident before God, thus not expecting the things in life He has and wants to give to us.

Joyce Meyers says, “Without confidence, our faith will not work.”

People who struggle with dePRESSion, often do so because of pervasive guilty feelings.  They don’t know what to do with the accusations in their hearts.  Too often they believe them as real.  If this goes on long enough, it can alter the chemistry in their brains and affect every cell in their bodies.

So, how do we find that confidence before God?

Well, 1 Jn 3:18 gives a very simple answer:  LOVE.  Sincere, practical love. (I know… easy, huh?)

Love links us to the TRUTH (God is love!) and when that happens, we are told, our hearts can be reassured in God’s presence. (vs 19)

You see, a LIE is operating ”Whenever our hearts in self-accusation make us feel guilty and condemned.” The truth is God is love and He remembers your sin NO MORE.

If we do not bask in the truth of His love, then we cannot honestly and fully love ourselves or others. Our guilty consciences will have its way, interrupt our faith, our expectation of good, and prohibit us from receiving all God has for us.

So, do not let your heart condemn you.  Simply love.  Love God, yourself, and those in your life.

Get in His presence and receive His lavish love.  It’s His perfect love that casts out all your fears.  He’s crazy about you!  And so am I!

You are Good Enough!

Do you ever compare yourself with someone else and you just come up short?

Do you feel like you try and try and try, and still you don’t feel like it’s enough?

Do you have degrees, credentials, and certificates that adorn your wall, but it still seems inadequate?

Do you worry that if you let down, or aren’t on top of it all, or doing it just right, then something bad will happen… and
you will have to live with the responsibility or consequences?

I know I have, and still am tempted to think all of those things!

When I graduated from law school, scored in the top 10% in bar exam results, and landed one of the most prestigious jobs in the state…

I was absolutely stunned that…

it still wasn’t enough.

The feeling of accomplishment was so short lived, I slowly spiraled down into a major depression.

Then I met God.

A cataclysmic encounter with Him and His love compelled me to give up atheism, and made me want Him forever…..
or at least until I discovered a standard of perfection that I felt (wrongly) was expected of me, and one I couldn’t
possibly attain.

“No problem! That’s what the Holy Spirit is for!” I was told. “Just rely on Him and you’re all set.”

Great!! Um… how do I do that, and why does it still feel like I’m not good enough?

Arghh…

It wasn’t until a thought, like a seed, was planted in my mind and heart, that things began to turn around…

God made me good enough.

… actually more than good enough… in fact… PERFECT! In His eyes, I am just perfect! (If you want to have a theological discussion about this, email me!)

Once I decided to believe that, God nurtured that thought in me, let it take root in the fertile ground of His love, and
eventually, I stopped trying to prove it to myself and others.

I stopped making my choices about pass or fail. I had already passed… with flying colors!

God didn’t want me striving for perfection. He wanted me me to accept it. Once I did, then I could easily live out of it,
have some real stress-free fun, and a life of freedom and fulfillment.

And, while I’m at it… bring others along for the party.

If you already know what I’m talking about, hallelujah! Isn’t it grand!?.

But if not, I know my saying to you that you are more than good enough, isn’t enough to make it true for you. You need
to be convinced by God Himself like I was.

And I would love to join Him, and affirm the truth and encourage you to check out this notion, if you do not already believe it.

If you do believe it, but don’t feel it or see it, then might I suggest … something is standing in the way of you receiving
that truth?

What we believe controls the course of our lives, and so spend time with the Lord letting Him deepen your belief that–

YOU ARE MORE THAN ENOUGH,

YOU ARE PERFECT IN GOD’S EYES, and that my friend, is all you need to know.

Bask in it.

Say it several times throughout the day… and let me know if life looks and feels differently!

Hocus Pocus or Profitable Strategy?

As an eager young Christian, I sought instruction in how to seek God in His word.

Systematic study was good.  Open and point was bad.  In fact, the latter method was so suspect that it could  even be viewed as hocus pocus, divination, or even witchcraft.  Yikes!

I accepted that and was always a bit paranoid if I happened to get a golden nugget that way, even if it fit perfectly. Yeah.  I know.

Well, it’s been a number of years now that I have experienced profound revelation from the “open and point” method, and today I felt led to write about it for the first time ever.

Not only am I not suspicious of this method of seeking God, (of course, there are many others), but I find it absolutely thrilling when God confirms, reveals, or magnifies something He is doing in my life through me merely opening up His word, looking down, and there it is… the word I need for the day.  It’s so personal!  I love it!

So… how does this work?

1.  I sit in my favorite place, with my journal, and write to the Lord my concern, my praises, or ask my questions.

2.  I ask, “Lord what would you like to say to me today?”

3.  I open my Bible, look down, and see if anything jumps out at me.  Literally.

4.  If it makes my heart leap, swell, calmed, or inspired… I write it down and meditate on it.

My heart gets full, like I’ve had a great meal, or I have a solution upon which to act, or direction in which to move forward.  I don’t second guess it.  Just receive.  Pretty simple. huh?

There are so many ways to access the heart of God directly, but try this one today.  Change it up once in a while!  The point is…. Seek Him and Get Happy!

1 Chron 16:10 – Let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the Lord!

Celebrating Victory!

I know I already sent a newsletter out to you today, but I just have to share one more thing…

10 years ago when NYC was under attack, our grandson, at just 10 years old, experienced first hand the devastation and terror living there.

Shortly after that he was robbed at knife point walking home from school with a lap top someone else thought he should have.

A few years later he moved with his family to England because his dad  secured a pastorate position.  Unfortunately England’s people were not too keen on Americans, and our grandson often felt the brunt of it in his school, getting beat up more than once.

All of this caused a great deal of anguish, worry, and confusion to  this little guy.  He became very uncertain about life, what he could count on, who he could trust.  His faith in God became severely challenged and he fell into rebellion and often anger.

It was sad to see this change, since he was always the sweetest, most affectionate, and generous hearted child.  We wondered where all this would go for him.

But God is good, prayer works wonders, and our daughter’s and son-in-law’s relentless faith bore powerful fruit!

Our grandson did not succumb to hardened bitterness or drug addiction or depression…. instead a love of country, family, and God became a passion and he chose to be one who would stand up, be a force to contend with, and a solution to the problem, rather than one who either shrinks away or just complains.

This week, of all weeks, our grandson will receive the Trident award for completing the most grueling of training to be a Navy SEAL.  He is a mere 20 years old.We are so proud, and so grateful.  As my friend, would you take a moment to pray for him?

There were times we imagined all kinds of things for this young man as we watched him struggle, but we did not imagine he would even think about enlisting in the armed forces, let receive the Trident award!

But this came to mind….

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.  Eph 3:20

May I encourage you to take your biggest fear, worry, or concern and exercise faith in the One who’s power is at work in you?  Let Him do immeasurably more than you can ask or imagine.

How is Your Core Confidence?

By the time you receive this, it will be a day after the 10th anniversary of 9/11.  In light of what is going on in the world… (yes, every sector is being affected),

I want to ask you, how is your core confidence?

Are you one of the lion-hearted or is your heart melting because of fear?

If you take this message to heart, I believe it will help strengthen you as it did me.

May I share from Isaiah 44?

1YET NOW hear, O Jacob, My servant and Israel, whom I have chosen.

2Thus says the Lord, Who made you and formed you from the womb, Who will help you:

Fear not,

O Jacob, My servant, and you Jeshurun, ...whom I have chosen.

3For I will pour water upon him who is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground. I will pour My Spirit

upon your offspring, and My blessing upon your descendants.

4And they shall spring up among the grass like willows or poplars by the watercourses.

5One will say, I am the Lord’s; and another will call himself by the name of Jacob; and another will write [even brand or tattoo] upon his hand, I am the Lord’s, and surname himself by the [honorable] name of Israel.

(For concerned parents… this is great news so far!!

But keep reading!)

6Thus says the Lord, the King of Israel and his Redeemer, the Lord of hosts: I am the First and I am the Last; besides Me there is no God….

8Fear not, nor be afraid [in the coming violent upheavals]; have I not told it to you from of old and declared it? And you are My witnesses! Is there a God besides Me? There is no [other] Rock; I know not any.

The next passages continue to address how false idols only bring confusion, chaos, and worthlessness. They profit us nothing.

I am convinced that these days we need to strengthen our hearts in such a way like none before.  Our core confidence has to that of a mighty warrior. (yes, this coming from the girl who just wants to have fun!)

This happens when we are whole-hearted toward God, our identity, and the passionate purpose for which we are created.

Recently it has been discovered by brain scientists that whole-heartedness actually changes our brain cells – our mindset!

Double-minded thinking always leads to instability, unreliability, and uncertainty.   We can not afford that.

So, I guess I am challenging you today.

Take this request before the Lord…

“Lord, please bring to light any thing in my heart and mind that creates doubt, anxiety, and fear.   I desire to be whole-hearted toward You, Your promises, and Your purposes.  Show me my passionate purpose for which You created me. Thank you.”

Take a stand against doubt, no matter how it looks out there.  God has a way.  He always has a way.  We just need eyes to see it.

15 Minutes with Tony Bennett

Well, was I in for a rare and unexpected treat!

You just have to hear the whole story to fully appreciate the workings of God here…

A few years ago, I was feeling quite down in the dumps. God was teaching me about His favor because He knew

that I was struggling with feeling inadequate, unworthy, underutilized in my gifting (which is a joy when it is released and appreciated), and thoroughly discouraged that I had anything of real value to offer anyone.

I had recounted to myself all the times I had failed, or when things hadn’t worked out as hoped, or…you know  you can paint a picture that creates futility or you can paint one that creates success… it all depends on what you want to see at the time!

Well, I was convinced that I was unworthy, and fie to anyone who would try and tell me otherwise!

Thankfully God knows us so well, and knew I needed a blast of truth, His perspective, on things, and so, He resurrected a memory, long forgotten.

I was 19, at a hemo-dialysis convention (yeah, you read that right!), staying at the famous Palmer House in Chicago.  Tony Bennett was performing in the dinner theater and we were allowed to attend.

Earlier in the day, I randomly (is it ever??) met a man in the elevator who turned out to be Mr. Bennett’s drummer.

He invited me to meet the star after the show. (Ok, so maybe his motives were less than pure.) Of course, I said yes!

As promised, this man came to my table, and escorted me to Tony Bennett’s dressing room. The other ladies at my table were worried, and maybe… a little envious?

Well, in my excitement, I forgot to put my heels on which had been killing my feet.  That wasn’t so bad, except my big toes had poked out of my stockings in a most noticeable way.

Not wanting anything to cause me to miss out on this amazing opportunity, I dismissed the shoes, hoping Mr. Bennett would do the same, and stood outside 0f his door, waiting breathlessly for the invitation.

My swiftly beating heart nearly stopped as Mr. Smooth opened the door with the warmest of smiles, obviously expecting ME!

Ushering me in, he showed me a seat at a table laden with choice sweets, snacks, and beverages, piling food onto a plate, coaxing me to eat as all good Italians do.

I had never experienced such sweet, hospitality, from a most gentle and humble man.  In his stardom, he treated me like I was the Queen.

This was a precious event in my life which I held dear until my religious mind dismissed this memory as worldly and meaningless, and thus stuffed it into the far recesses of my subconscious.

But God, who redeems and restores everything, brought this memory forward for me to prize, at just the right moment.  He drew out the favor extended to me, and said, “Maryann, you are worthy of the attention of kings, stars, and Me.”

I cried.

Since then, Tony Bennett has symbolized for me the special touch of God on my life.  I have hoped that one day he would know the part he played in God’s work in my life.

Well, a few days ago, I was at my dad’s and I picked up the weekend section of his newspaper…something I NEVER do.

In it was an ad for Tony Bennett coming to our area in just 2 days.  I saw the price and between that and the late notice I determined it was not going to happen.  (yeah, where was my faith??!)

The NEXT day, however, a sister emailed me, apologizing for the late notice, and asked if I might want to see Tony Bennett…  and at no cost to us.

MIGHT???

And so, last nite, thousands of us drifted into a near dream state as we enjoyed the stellar performance of this 85 year old man who clearly wasn’t just singing to us, but expressing one of the primary reasons he was put on this earth... to delight and elevate the souls of men, in a most exquisite and humble manner.

As he treated us, I could only recall that day, 40 years ago, and dared to hope that maybe, just maybe, I could once again, now with my husband, go backstage, and spend another 15 minutes.  Heck,  I’d take 5.

Well, after waiting 30 minutes or more, it didn’t happen, despite all the favor in the world.

So, what’s the point?

Look at all of your life as a means for God to make you see yourself as special and worthy of blessing.  That is His heart and desire for you.

But also, I’m not done.  I will somehow, someway, spend 15 more minutes with Mr. Bennett.  I don’t know how this will happen, but I know there must be a way …. say, if you know of one, could you let me know?

King David’s Secret to Success

Do you ever feel sometimes that all your efforts just don’t amount to much?

Maybe you have a mission, a purpose, or a good work that requires you to step outside your comfort zone, and it’s just a lot of work to get it going or carry it through.

You know what you want and where you want to go, but it just doesn’t seem like it’s working very well.

I’m sure King David felt that way when he desired to bring the ark of the Lord home.  If you read 1 Chronicles 13 -16, you will see what I mean.

As I was reading these passages the other day, I asked the Lord, “What do you want to show me today?”

God always know just what we need to see, even if we aren’t aware we need the message!

Here’s the backdrop: David’s first attempt at bring the ark home didn’t work out so well.  In fact, it was an utter flop,and David became angry and offended with God. (Have you ever felt, “Gee whiz, Lord… I’m doing this for you!?  What the heck?!”)

But David didn’t stay at that place, and within a short time, he perceived himself as king (finally!) and learned how to seek God, first and foremost, for strategies to fight the plotting Philistines.  Victory resulted.

With that experience under his belt, this time when David brought the ark home, he did it in dignity and according to the way God had established for ultimate success.

Like David, our efforts can be thwarted and frustrated by our own perceptions and haphazard attempts, making us angry and disgruntled.  External obstacles and circumstances beyond our control can also threaten the fulfillment of our mission.

But David was always attentive to God, ready to learn whatever God had for him to learn. And thankfully, the story of the ark doesn’t end in a failed mission!  God has a marvelous way of redeeming our mistakes and upgrading our thinking and our choices.

What a reassuring encouragement for us!  But wait, there’s more!

Once the ark was safely in its place, look at David’s priorities! This what the Lord was highlighting to me as critical to David’s success as anything else…

Then on that day David FIRST ENTRUSTED to Asaph and his brethren the SINGING OF THANKS to the LORD [as their CHIEF task]:

Give thanks to the Lord, call on His name; make known His doings among the peoples!

Sing to Him, sing praises to Him; meditate on and talk of all His wondrous works and devoutly praise them!

Glory in His holy name; let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the Lord!

Seek the Lord and His strength; yearn for and seek His face and to be in His presence continually! 1 Chron 16: 7-11

As I read this, the Lord shined a light on these words: FIRST, ENTRUSTED, SINGING, THANKS, LORD, CHIEF.  How important did David consider giving thanks?!

If anyone has any question about the “secrets to success,” take note here!

I have to admit, though I know, at some level, that expressing gratitude to God

for everything, even in the midst of trials and worries, is a healthy and desirable practice, if for no other reason than God is worthy, I don’t believe I was convinced that giving thanks is a critical and powerful secret to success.

Brain scientists have determined that when we are grateful, chemicals which make us feel good are released! Is this, in part, the joy of the Lord which gives us strength?

Feeling grateful allows the mind to flow more creatively and positively, helping us to be more productive and effective.  And surely, gratitude delights the heart of God!

We are royalty as David was.  We have God’s favor, a world to impact, and a destiny for which we are created.

Obstacles and frustrations will tend to get in our way.  Giving thanks in th midst of it, I am now convinced, will bring the faith, joy, and strength we need to achieve what it is the Lord has for us.

Giving thanks for everything, or for no specific reason will keep our hearts open and trusting to hear the voice of the Lord without all of the interference.

So, be encouraged as the Lord encouraged me:  don’t just gut it out… lift your voice, and then your whole self, by giving thanks to the One who loves you most.

You are highly favored and immensely loved by God!

Can You Really Expect God’s Favor?

I know you’ve heard the phrase “the favor of God.” You may have even paid some attention to what it means and believe it’s for you.

But can I ask you…. do you EXPECT it? Or are there little voices in your head that say, “Yeah… but….”

I understand. It took me a while to expect favor. God showed me I had it. I agreed with Him and wanted it. I even asked for more of it.

But deep in my programming was a built up set of beliefs, called strongholds, that said it really wasn’t for me.

You see, what I discovered was, the strongholds we set up are designed to protect us and keep us safe. Destiny and purpose are designed to get us up and moving out. That’s risky! That requires courageous, creativity, and clarity.

Not pursuing our destiny and purpose keeps us in hiding, from putting ourselves out there, and getting exposed. That seems safe, but if you have a call and a destiny, then chances are, you are struggling with this. You need favor at the cellular level.

Favor is the supernatural force that is available to help us feel esteemed, empowered, and worthy. We need that in order for us to flow in the wonderful things God has for us. We need favor just to perceive our destiny, let alone manifest it.

Notice in Roman 5:17 we are encouraged that those who RECEIVE an ABUNDANCE of grace and favor and the FREE gift of righteousness with REIGN as KINGS in THIS life through Jesus. Not the next life…. THIS life.

So, to be an overcomer, a ruler and a reigner, (a Royal Master Warrior, is what I call it) we need to RECEIVE. We don’t receive, however, if strongholds, false beliefs in our imagination within say we can’t have the favor God has for us.

There is an evil force that wants to keep you down, silence your voice, and make you give up. He’s operating big time in this current economy where everything has become about money.

Well, the word says, “Loving favor is better than silver or gold.” Prov 22:1.

That doesn’t mean that silver and gold are not for you, but rather, favor can buy, achieve, and create a whole lot more, and do it with dignity, honor, and gratitude to God, and that is a wealth in and of itself.
